Több újság (The Sun, 1830. február 1., The Star, 1830. február 1., The Weekly Free Press, 1830. február 6.) hangsúlyozza, hogy a kelet-európai, de különösen a magyar költészet nagyobb figyelmet érdemel, mint amennyiben addig részesült, mivel a fordítások arról árulkodnak, hogy a magyar költészet olyam értékeket tartalmaz, melyeknek az egész nyugati világ közkincsévé kell válniok.

In Hong Kong, Sir John Bowring (governor 1854-1859) met László Berzenczey of Görgényszentimre (Kolozsvár, 1820 Budapest, 1884), the famous Hungarian traveller, explorer, one-time general of Kossuth, the summoner of the Szekler National Assembly in Agyagfalva. The English diplomat conversed with Berzenczey about matters of linguistics and Hungarian literature. The origin of the Hungarian language extends to time immemorial. It developed in a very particular manner and its structure reaches back to times when most of the now spoken European languages did not even exist. It needs no one, it does not borrow, does no buckstering, and does not give to, or take from, anyone. This language is the oldest and most glorious monument of a national sovereignty and a mental independence. He who solves it shall be analyzing the Divine secret in its very first tenet: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. |
